BEHIND THE PROJECT

What initially started as purely a documentation of the project, quickly evolved into a larger format documentary following an arts-based sustainability initiative at The University of Richmond, in which discarded materials are transformed into sculptural and performative elements.

The film traces the collaborative crafting process, the educational methods behind it, and the sharing of these hands-on, eco-centered practices with students in international learning communities.

Presented as a part of the Tucker-Boatwright Festival of Literature & the Arts, the play was performed by Richmond Shakespeare in the form of “Eco-Shakes” in February 2025, with Professor Emmy Weldon going on to present an extension of the work at a leadership conference in Cape Town, South Africa, in July 2025.

“Cat was an incredible partner on this project. From day one of our work together, she brought a collaborative mindset, clear integrity, and sincere respect. She handled a complex and unusual brief with impressive calm. While I was overwhelmed with logistics, it was a great relief that I never felt like I needed to manage her participation the way I often do with vendors. She was always where I needed her, when I needed her, ready to capture every angle. She put participants at ease on camera and stayed unobtrusive while documenting the work-in-progress, which helped students stay in the moment and act naturally. The editing process was unbelievably smooth, and collaborating with Jared on interview sound and drone footage elevated the final content. As a video artist myself, I expected to be picky in the edit, but she nailed my vision with only minor tweaks. I would gladly work with her again and emphatically recommend her for any business, event, or artistic project.”
